§ 2-81. Fees charged by the medical examiner's office.

Latest version.
  • (a)

Intent and purpose. It is the intent and purpose of this section to establish the procedures for the county to recoup fees charged by the medical examiner's office for cremation, dissection, and burial-at-sea approvals.

    (b)

Establishment of schedule of fees. The board of county commissioners may establish by resolution a schedule of fees to be collected by the county from funeral homes or crematories for recoupment of costs paid to the medical examiner's office for cremation, dissection, and burial-at-sea approvals. No approval for cremation, dissection, or burial-at-sea shall be required in cases where the medical examiner's office conducted the initial investigation and certified the cause of death. The county may, however, waive a fee upon presentation of a pre-approval agreement dated on or before November 1, 1994.

    (c)

Exclusive use of collected fees. All fees collected pursuant to a resolution and enacted by authority of this section shall be used exclusively by the county to recoup or recover costs previously paid to the medical examiner's office for the provision of cremation, dissection, and burial-at-sea approvals.
