§ 38-42. Classification.

  • Pasco County shall coordinate responses to all 911 calls requesting emergency medical transporation. Services granted certificates required under this division shall operate in accordance with the classification of each service category and subcategory as follows:

    (1)

    Advanced life support service.

    a.

    ALS transport. ALS service maintained or operated with the intention of providing emergency transportation on a regular basis as a matter of established operational policy. Such certificate holder(s) shall provide 911 pre-hospital responses.

    b.

    ALS nontransport. ALS service maintained or operated with the intention of not providing emergency transportation on a regular basis as a matter of established operational policy. Such certificate holder(s) shall provide 911 pre-hospital responses only upon the request of the county.

    c.

    ALS interfacility transport service. ALS service maintained or operated with the intention of providing interfacility transport of only medically necessary patients to and from medical facilities (including nursing homes or hospice centers) except for those transports the disposition of which would result in an unscheduled emergency department admission. Such certificate holder(s) shall be prohibited from providing 911 pre-hospital responses unless requested by the county.

    (2)

    Basic life support service. Emergency medical transport or nontransport service which uses basic life support techniques in the treatment of life-threatening emergencies on a regular basis as a matter of established operational policy.

    a.

    BLS transport. BLS service maintained or operated with the intention of providing emergency transportation on a regular basis as a matter of established operational policy. Such certificated holder(s) shall not provide 911 pre-hospital responses unless requested by the county.

    b.

    BLS nontransport. BLS service maintained or operated with the intention of on-scene BLS medical services but not providing emergency transportation on a regular basis as a matter of established operational policy. Such certificate holder(s) shall not provide 911 pre-hospital responses unless requested by the county.

    c.

    BLS interfacility transport service. BLS service maintained and operated with the intention of providing interfacility transport of only medically necessary patients requiring BLS medical assistance to and from medical facilities (including nursing homes or hospice centers). Such certificate holders shall be prohibited from providing 911 pre-hospital responses unless requested by the county.

    (3)

    Air medical transportation service. A nonmilitary service maintained or operated with the intention of providing basic or advanced life support service by aircraft for emergency medical patients as a matter of established operational policy.
